Getting Around

Redline coaches operate an airport shuttle to and from the city on request. Local buses are run by Metro and most depart from Metro City Bus Station. Dayrover Tickets are available in Hobart. The main companies running from Hobart are Redline Coaches, Hobart Coaches and Tasmanian Wilderness Transport and Tours. Each company has its own special rates, which can be used for the specified number of days. (Greyhound Pioneer Aussie Passes cannot be used in Tasmania). There is a ferry service which operates between Franklin Wharf and Bellerive Wharf and is a very nice way to cross the Derwent River. This service runs on weekdays only.

How To Get There

Ansett and Qantas have flights to Hobart from most Australian state capitals while Kendell Airlines of Tasmania, Promair and Hazelton Air Services operate from other airports in Victoria. Tasmania is linked to the mainland of Australia by ferries which transfer passengers and their vehicles to and from Tasmania. The ferry, the Spirit of Tasmania transports passengers and their vehicles between Melbourne and Devonport and takes 14.5 hours. The ferry which is more like a cruise ship can accommodate over 600 vehicles and over 1200 passengers.
