The Murray River is Australia's most important inland waterway. The Murray forms much of the border between New South Wales and Victoria. It flows from the Snowy Mountains in the north east to Encounter Bay in South Australia.

The Murray is famous for its forests of red gums. Echuca, once Australia's busiest inland port, has a kilometre long red gum wharf. Echuca is full of colonial heritage and you can take a ride in a horsedrawn carriage or arestored steam engine. There are paddlesteamers which operate along the Murray River allowing you to exlpore the area and also take a step back in time.

Albury-Wodonga is a popular area on the NSW/Victoria border. Albury is an ideal base for a variety of activities including skiing (in winter), canoeing, white-water rafting, fishing, water skiing and bushwalking. There are also wineries and gold mining towns nearby and along the river are many historic towns.
