Getting Around

Air access: Regular air access is provided to Karratha and Port Hedland on the coast and Tom Price and Newman inland..

Road Access:The Pilbara is accesses by two major road arteries: The North West Coastal Highway and the Great Northern highway which passes through Newman.

Driving:The Pilbara region is huge (500,000 square kilometres), so ensure you have all the basic equipment for your car: jack, spare tyres, extra fan belt, radiator hoses, and a tow rope. Be careful to plan ahead for fuel stops and carry a detailed map of the area, ,especially if you plan to travel off the main roads.

Always carry plenty of water 20 litres minimum. Heavy rains in summer months can cause roads to be cut off so contact the closest tourist bureau for road conditions. The speed on Pilbara highway's is 110km per hour. Always be alert and travel at a speed that suits your vehicle, road and weather conditions. Remember to take it easy; you don't want to miss the scenery!
