Buxton Manor
Buxton ManorBuxton Manor is a glorious, romantic, large Mansion built in 1908 in the William Morris 'Arts & Craft' theme of decorative red brick with steep sloping roof lines and beveled diamond shaped windows, surrounded by half an acre of manicured gardens with masses of old fashioned scented roses, Herb garden, Cottage flowers and sweeping Lawns.
It houses our best collection of Australian antiques and memorabilia and features open log fires, polished spruce floors, decorative fireplaces, marbleised ceilings, rag rolled faux paint finishes, ornate ceiling roses, gilt mirrors and sumptuous Antique beds. It lies in the heart of the exclusive historic area of North Adelaide, part of the City of Adelaide. One of the Fathers of the Australian Constitution Sir Josiah Symons lived in the Manor during the winter months, tended by his Butter, Chauffeur, Cook and Maids!
You can also enjoy picking fruits from our 100 year old cumquot tree to make into cumquot jam!
There are stripped umbrellas
shading two outdoor designer table settings and two bluestone stone wood barbecues, all set up ready to barbecue. Guests often while away an afternoon lounging in the sunny rear expansive garden listening to bird song, sipping a glass of South Australian wine and enjoying the private surroundings.
It is hard to believe the Manor house is so close to the city. Our guests frequently stroll down to the city through the city park lands whilst taking a closer look at the Stately stone homes and quaint cottages lining the treed shady boulevards of North Adelaide, stopping on the way for a Cafe au lait at the numerous open air cafes.

This is a light lavish, spacious suite of 5 huge grand rooms with polished floors, high marbled ceilings, open fireplaces and beautiful Victorian antiques. The Romantic master bedroom, with decorative silverware and softly hued Antique Lights and an open fire,

Many formal drinks parties were held in this sumptuous spacious elegant room by the legal eagles of Adelaide as they discussed the
Countries Constitution, warmed by the open fire. The Kitchen has lovely Colonial furniture, interesting Curios, a breakfast table and a kitchen pantry. Diamond leadlight windows flank the front portico which leads into the grand Entrance foyer with its Raj like Bishops Coffer and magnificent hall furniture. In General
This is a very romantic suite of four large atmospheric rooms, reminiscent of a gentleman's Smoking Room, with a large drawing room (used to be the billiard room), open fireplaces, polished timbers, beautiful Sanderson 'Bird of Paradise' drapes and leather chesterfields to recline on in front of the open fire, which occupies the whole wall.
The Master Bedroom has a Canopied half testa and porcelain antique bed hung with water mark silk and English tapestries and a romantic open fire place and open onto the study with a Victorian Chaise Longue and interesting caricatures. Original Works of Art by Australia's Bushman Artist Pro Hart grace the Drawing room walls alongside a walnut heavily carved sideboard. This is a suite to relax in front of the fire with a good book!
The Butlers

In General
The Butlers has a clubby (as in old English Gentleman club) atmosphere. The drawing room has a bay window with a cosy open fire, polished floors and nice comfortable "slip in to something" furniture. Two large bedrooms both with fireplaces lead off the hallway with antique brass double beds. The bathroom is huge with an original claw and ball cast iron bath and tessellated floor tiles. The kitchen has the feel of a country kitchen with a big country timber dresser and kitchen table; this is where the butler mixed drinks for the master of the household. There is a cellar set up with a Barossa Valley stretcher plank dining table and also a breezeway with a Cane table and chairs. This has a comfortable, cosy feel and is great for two couples or a family.
