It's a combination that's been enchanting visitors for over a decade. For those who get a chance to visit we extend a warm welcome. Okiato Lodge, Bay of Islands, New Zealand.
Each of the suites at Okiato has its own deck with views of the inner Bay of Islands and its own lounge area, television and ensuite bathroom. For your comfort and convenience we provide bathrobes, beach towels, hairdryers, tea and coffee making facilities, mini-bars, radio/alarm clocks. The Bay of Islands, 150 islands steeped in history and blessed by nature, a subtropical escape
with so much to see and do.
For a cruising adventure you'll never forget, relax and discover these spectacular islands aboard a luxury high-speed catamaran. Full and half day cruises are available. Charter yachts can also take you to one of the hundreds of secluded islands in the area: Swim, sail and laze the day away in absolute tranquility... or dive for scallops and crayfish in crystal clear waters! There is just nowhere else that offers a more interesting and pleasant way to relax, and the natural beauty surrounding the fishing grounds ensures even the worst angler of a relaxing and yet potentially exciting day.
You could also swim with the dolphins, a once in a lifetime opportunity. And in winter, when the temperature rarely falls below 20 degrees, you may even encounter whales! Situated on the site of New Zealand's first capital, Okiato Lodge is just eight kilometres from the charming bayside village of Russell. The area abounds in historical sites, such as the oldest Church in New Zealand and our oldest surviving European building, Kemp House.
At Waitangi you can view a replica of our nation's founding document. The Treaty of Waitangi, and visit the building where British and Maori leaders came together to sign it. The Treaty House is frozen in time, furnished as it would have been in colonial times. You can also see a Maori war canoe built to carry 150 warriors!
There is so much to see and do in the Bay of Islands from sailing to Golf, bush walking to sightseeing, thrill seeking to relaxing, and Okiato Lodge is at the centre of it all.
