Thala Beach Lodge
Thala is an Aboriginal name for the magnificent White-bellied Sea Eagle and it is believed to be the the guardian spirit of the sea and the land.Thala Beach Lodge is located 38 kilometres North from the city of Cairns and 16 kilometres South of the village of Port Douglas. This is one of the World's most beautiful private beach locations. Two kilometres of spectacular sandy beach and secluded coves surround a 145 acre resort of unprecedented beauty. Built, owned and operated by locals who care.
The tropical rainforest, eucalyptus woodlands, creeks and mountains plunging into the sea are the ingredients that make the natural landscape.
Great sensitivity has been applied to the design of the 85 rooms. They are all deluxe bungalows, individually built high on timber poles, looking out through the canopy of trees. The designs utilise natural materials and finishes, such as granite, timber and cotton, to create harmony with the environment, whilst offering the highest standards of comfort,
personalised service and privacy. Each with air-conditioning as well as ceiling fans, private verandahs, IDD phones, TV, mini bar, tea and coffee facilities, full height wardrobe, generous drawer space, hairdryers and each bathroom has a separate shower and bath.
The Main Building is built from a rocky ridge on high timber poles. This imaginative building has a restaurant with uninterrupted views that sweep for 140 kilometres from the Daintree rainforests to Cape Grafton, South of Cairns. This remarkable vista is studded by coral islands, reefs and mountains. Special emphasis is placed on developing a high standard of cuisine but at the same time keeping the friendly informal service appropriate to this beach is setting.
A series of beautiful and unobtrusive rock pools will allow guests to swim and gaze out to the Great Barrier Reef at the same time.
Conferences and weddings can be catered for in a unique way
Our 12 seat coaches provide transfers to and from Cairns Airport. The drive from the airport to Thala follows the shore of the Coral Sea and is one of the most magnificent in the South Pacific. In addition to the opportunity guests will have to experience the rich biodiversity at Thala.
