1 Day Blue Mountains Eco Experience
Your luxury four wheel drive vehicle will pick you up at your hotel between 7.00 and 7.30 am. A short drive through the Sydney city streets takes us via Darling Harbour and Cockle Bay to the ANZAC Bridge across Blackwattle Bay. Following the City West Link road our tour heads along Parramatta Road, then west towards the Blue Mountains with glimpses of Olympic Games arenas along the way.
Soon the city is behind us as we cruise the M4 Motorway with views of the mountain escarpment on the distant skyline. After crossing the Nepean River the road climbs into the foothills of the Blue Mountains. At Glenbrook we enter the Blue Mountains National Park and wind our way down through sandstone ravines into Euroka Clearing, the site of an extinct volcano, for opportunities to photograph kangaroos and native Australian birdlife in their natural state. Billy tea, Anzac biscuits and lamingtons are on the menu for a typical Aussie morning tea.
Back on the road we work our way westwards along the ridges, following the route of early explorers through Leura and Katoomba to Echo Point and the famous Three Sisters. An Aboriginal legend tells of Tyewan, a man with special magic powers, turning his three young daughters to stone to save them from being severely punished for accidentally breaking the rules of the bush. The full story is displayed in the Three Sisters Visitors' Centre. Leaving Echo Point we pause at lookouts along Cliff Drive for further views of the Three Sisters, Mt Solitary and the spectacular Jamison Valley.
We drive through Medlow Bath, with its famous Hydro Majestic Hotel, and Blackheath to our next stop at Anvil Rock. Here, a short bush walk brings us to a secluded lookout with stunning views across the Grose Valley, and on a clear day, to the Sydney city skyline 100 km away. Then, a challenging four wheel drive track takes us across a creek and through eucalypt forests to Mt Victoria where we will enjoy a barbecue lunch.
Turning north we pass through the locality of Bilpin, then enter the Wollemi National Park. A forest drive leads into tranquil Wheeney Creek, where we take time to relax and reflect once more in the inspirational solitude of the Australian Bush. From here, rural tracks bring us to Colo, where we return to main roads beginning a picturesque drive back to Sydney. Historic buildings at Windsor offer insights into a bygone era before our tour takes us across the Hawkesbury River. The modern M2 Motorway completes our round trip, bringing us to the northern gateway to the city, the majestic Sydney Harbour Bridge, which we cross before arriving back at your hotel by 5.30 pm.
