DAY TWO (BREAKFAST/LUNCH/DINNER)
This morning you can see the sunrise on the Rock, before tackling the challenge of the climb. Uluru (Ayers Rock) is 348 metres above the desert floor. The climb is 1.6 km, but even if you decide not to climb, the surrounding landscape is spectacular. This is followed by a base tour exploring ancient caves where Aboriginal paintings, eroded rock faces and unusual rock formations can be seen. We then return to Ayers Rock Resort where time is allowed for an optional 30-minute scenic flight over Ayers Rock and the Olgas (own expense). After lunch we depart for Kings Creek Station, a working cattle/camel station and our overnight camp. A range of optional activities is available here. Tonight is an excellent night to swap yarns around the campfire under the beautiful star filled skies of Central Australia while enjoying a hearty bush dinner cooked over a crackling fire.
DAY THREE (BREAKFAST/LUNCH/DINNER)
An early rise to travel out to Kings Canyon, a geological jewel nestled at the western end of the George Gill Ranges. We spend the next 4 hours exploring the canyon. View the "Amphitheatre", "the Lost City", the striking north and south walls and the beautiful "Garden of Eden". After leaving Kings Canyon we travel via the Mereenie Loop Road and on through Tylers Pass, stopping to view Gosse Bluff, a 130 million year old comet crater and Glen Helen Gorge. Our campsite tonight is in the Western MacDonnell Ranges.
DAY FOUR (BREAKFAST/LUNCH/DINNER)
A relaxing day in the Western MacDonnell Ranges visiting Ormiston Gorge, the Ochre Pits and Ellery Creek Big Hole. There are some short hikes and during the warmer months, you can go swimming in some of the natural waterholes. We then continue onto Wallace Rock Hole Aboriginal Community, home to the Arrernte people. Here we do a guided tour to learn about their lifestyle and culture and how art was used as a tool to find food and water. Our camp tonight is at Wallace Rock Hole Aboriginal Community.
DAY FIVE (BREAKFAST/LUNCH)
This morning we travel by 4WD along the Finke River, the oldest river course in the world, into Finke Gorge National Park. Within the park is Palm Valley, where we do some short walks and where you can view the ancient Livistona Mariae Palms. This is the only place in the world that they can be found. We then continue our journey, stopping to view Standley Chasm before returning to Alice Springs late afternoon. Passengers must finish tour in Alice Springs
Please note: Some activities inside the national parks are weather permitting.
