Day 1. Ayers Rock Resort, Kata Tjuta (Olgas), Olga Gorge (Walpa Gorge) Walk, Sunset Drinks.
Depart Alice Springs and travel through rugged Outback landscapes via the West MacDonnell Ranges. This ancient, twisted range is thought to be the oldest in Australia, and one of the oldest still standing anywhere in the world. Stop at the Outback Camel Farm to learn about these animals which have played such an important role in the development of remote Central Australia. There's also the opportunity to ride a camel (own expense). Back aboard the coach, we continue through the red sands, stopping to view the intriguing flat-topped Mt Conner rising above the plain before arriving at Ayers Rock Resort. Early in the afternoon join a tour to the 36 giant rocky domes of Kata Tjuta. Walk into Olga Gorge and keep an eye out for the ancient petroglyphs (stone carvings) in the rock floor. As the sun starts to sink in the desert sky, enjoy a complimentary glass of wine at Uluru (Ayers Rock). Watch the magnificent sunset show of light and ever-changing colour on the monolith.
Stay: Ayers Rock Resort, choice of hotel.

Day 2. Uluru at Sunrise, Guided Mala Walk, Mutitjulu Waterhole, Kantju Gorge, Alice Springs.
Rise early and return to Uluru to watch the second act of the famous light show, this time from its eastern side at sunrise. Enjoy a tea or coffee while sun rises over Uluru. With the sun still climbing, take a guided walk to the beautiful waterhole of Mutitjulu. Here see ancient rock paintings and hear the legends of Kuniya Tjukurpa (Python Dreaming). Tour the base of Uluru before joining your guide to learn about the geology and flora of the region on the Mala Walk. Visit Kantju Gorge, a sacred waterhole and hunting ground with near-vertical walls rising from the water. Alternatively you can forgo the guided Mutitjulu and Mala walks to climb to the summit of Uluru. Stand 348 metres above the desert and enjoy spectacular views of Kata Tjuta (Olgas). Travel to the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre where interpretive displays give insight into this most ancient of cultures. Then call in at the Maruku Arts and Craft Cooperative where you can see Aboriginal artists at work. Depart for Alice Springs, arriving approximately 6.30 p.m.
