Day 1: Departing Broome, hub of the pearling industry with its white sandy beaches and sparkling ocean we travel north east crossing the mighty Fitzroy River, where we pause to have morning tea, overlooking one of the many waterholes left by the raging torrent that passes down the Fitzroy River during the tropical wet season. Continuing on our way, Boab trees become more common and we stop to look at the famous Boab Tree, used in the early days to secure prisoners overnight. Myall's bore, reputedly the longest cattle trough in Australia is seen and in Derby a visit to The Royal Flying Doctors base, wharf and a short tour of the town. Off on the infamous Gibb River Road, stopping for lunch at the May River then on to Windjana Gorge National Park to explore and spend the night. (LD)
Day 2: Today we travel to Tunnel Creek, where the creek runs under the Devonian reef creating an underground cavern with a variety of limestone formations. next stop is Fitzroy Crossing for lunch and then a boat tour of Geike Gorge, through the 350 million year old Devonian Reef where Johnstone crocodiles can normally be seen basking at the waters edge. Tonight is at Fitzroy Lodge for dinner and to spend the night. Option to accommodate available. (BLD)
Day 3: Via the Great Northern Highway to Halls Creek, site of the first gold rush in Western Australia in 1885. Visit China Wall, Caroline Pool and some of the original gold mines, where the rugged beauty of the country and the harsh conditions experienced by the early explorers is evident. Overnight at Old Halls Creek in the heart of the Goldfields. Option to accommodate available. (BLD)
Day 4: Further north through the heart of Kimberley cattle country to the lost world of Bungle Bungle, where after we visit the Froghole Gorge area, viewing the unique flora and fauna along the way. Overnight in our permanent campsite within the National park, where the safari lodge accommodation has been designed to blend into the natural beauty of the area. (BLD)
Day 5: After we visit Piccaninny Creek for a leisurely stroll through the magnificent beehive (dome) formations and the spectacular Cathedral Gorge, where the quietness and tranquillity of the rock pool can inspire you. After lunch we travel to Achidna Chasm where we walk amongst livistona palms and you will marvel at the colours in the sheer chasm walls. Whilst returning to camp, watch the colours change as the sun sets on the western face of the massif. (BLD)
Day 6: Today, after a hearty breakfast we visit Minnie Palms Gorge and cave. Here, after a walk up a winding track between conglomerate sandstone walls on which Livistona palms cling precariously, we come across the sunken floor of this unique gorge. Small palms spread out over the floor guarding the entrance to the cave. There is time today to take an optional helicopter flight over the massif if required, or just spend some time relaxing in this remarkable area.
Day 7: Further north, we pass through the community of Turkey Creek before arriving at the Grotto, here reflections of the overhanging vegetation mirror back at us, from the cool waters of the pool. On to the town of Wyndham with panoramic views from Five Rivers Lookout of the town,, Cambridge Gulf and the wharf area. After lunch, to Parry's Lagoon, where hundreds of birds can be seen both of the water and in the adjacent vegetation. Then its off to the town of Kununurra, first crossing the diversion dam across the Ord River, where a man made lake has transformed former grazing country into an area of high horticultural production. Arriving in Kununurra at approximately 1700.
