Day 1: Auckland - Waitomo - Rotorua
Through the lush Waikato pasture lands past Hamilton and on to Waitomo caves. Enjoy a subterranean boat ride under an eerie canopy of glow worm lights. On across the Waikato and Mamaku Hills to fiery Rotorua. We recommend you attend a fascinating Maori hangi (feast) and concert tonight (optional). Stay 2 nights in Rotorua

Day 2: At Rotorua
The half day sightseeing tour is included - see roaring geysers, boiling mud pools at the thermal area, tame trout at the springs and performing sheep and dogs at the Agrodome. This afternoon is free - there are many activities to attract you - such as bathing in the thermal waters. For a small additional cost you could stay at a country home tonight. Overnight in Rotorua

Day 3: Rotorua - Wellington
Drive south through exotic forests to Wairakei's permanent mantle of steam, to Lake Taupo. The ominous peaks of Tongariro,  Ngaruahoe and Ruapehu mountains line your journey over the Desert Road plateau. After Waiouru, drop down through the steep valleys of the Rangitikei district then the fertile plains of the Manawatu river.  Coastal villages, orchards and rocky seascapes bring you to Wellington at 4.1O pm. This evening you join a tour to see the main highlights of the capital city.  Wellington is a lively city with great shopping, restaurants and cafes and an varied night life of theatres, cinemas and music venues. Overnight in Wellington

Day 4: Wellington - Auckland
Through the tunnels, around the rocky seascapes and across the rich horticultural and dairy country to Palmerston North and Fielding. The Overlander train climbs up to the central volcanic plateau, around the foot of Mt Ruapehu and then descends the Raurimu Spiral to the King Country.  Through the towns of Te Awamutu and Hamilton in the Waikato Valley then follow the river north to Auckland City by 7.35 pm.
