Day 1: Wellington - Picton - Christchurch
Catch one of the famous ferries across Cook Strait then down the long, narrow and beautiful Marlborough Sounds to Picton in the South Island. From Picton travel on the TranzCoastal train along the Pacific Coast. A brief mountain traverse brings you down to the broad Canterbury Plains and then the 'Garden City' - Christchurch. Overnight in Christchurch.
Day 2: Christchurch - Dunedin
Sit back and enjoy the scenery as you travel to seaside Timaru. Continuing south, plains meet the hills of Otago, the whitestone buildings of Oamaru, and the jagged coastline of Palmerston. Finally, climb the cliffs around Mt Cargill and drop down into Dunedin - the 'Edinburgh of the South. Arrive early afternoon. Overnight in Dunedin.
Day 3: Dunedin - Te Anau
This morning is free for optional tours around Dunedin - art galleries, museums, or shopping. Heading south in the afternoon, journey over the rich sheep country and green fields of South Otago and Southland. The countryside becomes drier as as we gain our first glimpse of Fiordland. Overnight at Lake Te Anau.
Day 4: Te Anau - Milford Sound - Queenstown
The Fiordland National Park is the venue for today's thrilling experience - the beautiful valleys, the beech forests, the Homer Tunnel and the awesome Cleddau Canyon. A cruise on Milford Sound to see the majesty of Mitre Peak, rising nearly a kilometre straight out of the sea, and Bowen Falls is included. Then climb out of Milford Sound to Te Anau, travel across country to Kingston and drive alongside Lake Wakatipu to world famous Queenstown. Overnight in Queenstown
Day 5: At Queenstown
A full day for you to enjoy this fabulous resort and area. We have included the Skyline Gondola and the Kiwi Magic Movie in your tour. There are dozens of optional activities as well - thrilling jetboating on the rivers - white water rafting- cruises on Lake Wakatipu on the vintage 'TSS Earnslaw' - High Country sheep stations - gold panning - spectacular walking trails - the list is endless. . . Overnight in Queenstown
Day 6: Queenstown - Mt Cook - Christchurch
Leaving Queenstown, travel down the rocky and formidable Kawarau Gorge, enroute to the plains of the Mackenzie country and the Southern Alps to our left. We reach the central lakes and the Mount Cook National Park. Optional lunch at the Hermitage Hotel, or perhaps a Ski plane flight over the glaciers. Continue on past beautiful Lake Tekapo, over Burke Pass to Geraldine where, the Canterbury plains begin. Travel over broad rivers and wide open spaces to Christchurch, where your tour ends at approximately 6.15 pm.
